KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): In order to protect consumers from buying good quality durians, the Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association (PPIM) recommends selling “shelled fruit kings” on the market.
The president of the Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association, Nadzim Johan, issued a statement yesterday saying that this move not only provides consumers with a choice, but also solves the problem of fraud and prevents consumers from buying broken durians.
He stressed that this measure has actually been applied to durians exported to overseas, and once this policy is implemented, businesses must ensure the quality of durians.
On the occasion of the abundance of durians, a 30-year-old young businessman Mohd Azwan in Kedah often bought a broken durian because he often bought a broken shell.
The packaged durian pulp is priced at RM25 per 1 kg. And an entire durian will be priced from 8 to 25 ringgit per kilogram depending on the breed.
